Newly engaged

Jan 1, 2023

So, you’ve said ‘Yes’ to the ring, now to say ‘Yes’ to the dress!

Christmas and New Year are two of the most popular times of the year to propose and it’s easy to see why. There’s something very magical about the festive season which brings family and friends together to celebrate.

Did you partner get down on one knee to propose this Christmas or New Year? If he or she did, firstly congratulations, you’ll probably be full of excitement and head in a spin thinking how your big day is going to look. Once you’ve rushed to tell all your loved ones, found your dream venue, and bagged your photographer it’s time to start thinking about your dream dress!

Whether you’re getting married in 2 months or 2 years, it’s never too early to find your perfect dress. The most important thing to remember is that finding your dress is meant to a magical experience. Even though you’ve only just got engaged, finding your dress early is a must. It can take anywhere between four and six months for your dress to arrive, plus you need to factor in time for alterations so at least 10 months is a lovely timescale.

But don’t worry if you do have a shorter engagement in mind. We have our ‘ready to wear’ gowns, these are available for you to preview on our website and our socials prior to your appointment.  We may also be able to work with our designers to get a quick delivery for you, so we’ve got you covered no matter when the big day is …

You’ll also want to have a think about budget. Knowing what you would be willing to pay for your dream dress and discussing it with anyone kindly contributing to your gown prior to your appointment is usually a good idea. It may be an uncomfortable conversation but trust me it will save you from heartache later. Last thing we want is to put you in a dress, you fall in love and it’s not within budget.

Keep an open mind whilst you’re shopping with us. We will try you in many different styles, colours and even throw in some wild cards to make sure we’ve explored all options to find your perfect dress. You may find that your dream dress isn’t what you were expecting!

Be prepared for bridal sizing. Bridal gowns often measure up one or two sizes higher than what you would wear in your regular clothes. But remember that it’s just a number and one that if needs be, only you and your bridal consultant need to know about. Even if you are planning on losing weight in the lead up to the big day, we still advise Brides to order in the current size rather than smaller. It’s a lot easier for a seamstress to take a dress in than to let it out if it were to be too snug.

So, no matter your budget, personal style, or timeline, we are here to take the stress away and find the gown of your dream dress.
